The lake is full. And so was the moon last night. We have six very loyal cardinals in the yard, goldfinches (down from last year), chickadees, titmice, white-breasted nuthatches, 8 juvenile red-winged black birds, phoebes, king birds, and white-throated sparrows. Friday, a nutria walked up the steps of the dock and rooted around for something to eat and, for some reason, decided to take a bath in a pot hole filled with water.
Right after "he" swam off, a pair of wood ducks moved gracefully down the lake toward the shallow end. Later that evening, I found them nestled in the high grasses along the shore just down from the Richardson's house. Wouldn't it be grand if they stayed here all year.
